For over 150 years, Milwaukee has been home to a large community of people of Polish descent. The Milwaukee Polonia Project hopes to show the interweaving, intertwining family trees that resulted in this community. It is hoped that, eventually, all the families can be connected to one another. The Milwaukee Polonia Project is also a means to explore our common history and celebrate our shared heritage.

THE ACTUAL DATABASE OF THE TREE IS NOW LOCATED AT THE MILWAUKEE POLONIA PROJECT TREE at Tribal Pages. (We still have much work to do, so don't assume that families are shown completely.) YOU DO NOT NEED A PASSWORD TO ACCESS INFORMATION ON DECEASED INDIVIDUALS.

FAQ's

What is the Milwaukee Polonia Project?  The Milwaukee Polonia Project is an effort to show the marriage and blood relationships which link together the Polish-American families that resided in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with an emphasis on the time period before 1950.  It will also help to promote the history of that community by highlighting the careers of some of its important members and the places of origin of some Milwaukee Polish-American families.

What families are connected to the Milwaukee Polonia Project? The database of the Project is currently located on TribalPages at The Milwaukee Polonia Project Tree.   Only the information on individuals who are deceased (or who are presumed to be) is accessible.  The Project is on-going, so the number of connected families continues to increase.  If your family is not listed, check back again soon.

Can I get a password to access the information on the Milwaukee Polonia Project Tree?  No.  The MPP Tree contains information on many living individuals.  In order to protect their privacy as much as possible, access to the Tree is limited to information on individuals who are deceased (or at least presumed to be.)

Can I add the information on my family to the Tree?  We would love to add your information to the Tree.  However, because of the privacy concerns regarding living individuals, and other reasons, access to edit the Tree is restricted.  If you can send us your information via a GEDCOM file, a print-out, or other means, we will add the information as soon as possible.

What are the advantages if my family is part of the Milwaukee Polonia Project? You gain inner peace and eternal happiness.  No, seriously, you may:  1)   gain further insights into your origins,  2)  learn of new relatives, 3)  discover connections to important individuals in the history of Milwaukee, and 4) possibly connect with distant cousins.

How do I find out if my family is connected to the Milwaukee Polonia Project?  Check the database at The Milwaukee Polonia Project.

What is the PCN?  "PCN" stands for Project Completeness Number.  It is a highly-unscientific method of trying to determine how far along we are in completing the Project.  The lower the number, the more complete the Project. The Project will be deemed "complete" when the PCN is consistently "0".  For an explanation of how the PCN is calculated see the Status Update for February 5, 2012 and the Status Update for March 4, 2012.
